We are a 6th through 12th-grade school located in north Tulsa. We are part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory charter schools with a track record of preparing students in educationally underserved communities for success in life. KIPP Tulsa opened its first school, KIPP Tulsa College Prep, in 2005 with approximately 90 fifth-grade students. Today, KIPP Tulsa has grown to serve 6th through 12th-grade students and currently educates approximately 520 students. ABOUT THE DIRECTOR, TEACHING AND LEARNING ROLE The Director of Teaching and Learning supports the Pre-K-12 academic vision and leads the execution of the teaching and learning strategy to produce transformational outcomes for all students. This role is primarily responsible for directly managing the Regional Academic Team made up of K-12 content directors (Director of STEM, Director of Student Support, Data Manager, and Principals) to ensure strong strategy, execution, and school-based coaching and support to drive results for students. The Director of Teaching and Learning reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates frequently with the OKC lead academic personnel. This role is based in Tulsa and will require travel to our schools. Current data trends determine the cadence and frequency of travel to schools. If you relocate outside of a commutable distance or out of the state of OK, your employment will be subject to review, which may include separation from KIPP Tulsa. You must notify HR if you move or have plans to relocate. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO): Managerial Leadership and Team Management Managed a team of curriculum directors and principals to effectively execute KIPP Tulsa's strategic academic and coaching vision across all schools in alignment with the vision established by the executive director. Develop team members to more effectively execute their roles and responsibilities in leadership competencies as outlined by the executive director (coaching of leaders and teachers, strategic thinking, curriculum writing, project planning, communication, etc.) Provide meaningful and rigorous thought partnership, coaching, and management to all members of the teaching and learning team to ensure that strategies implemented are meaningful, data collection is rigorous, and course content upholds the bar of excellence for all students. Lead team meetings and team building activities to unite a team of highly capable and highly performing individuals to work together toward a common goal. Strategic Planning and Change Management Collaborate with the teaching and learning team to define a vision and strategy for improving academic outcomes for all students, which involves curriculum, teacher development, and leader development, to drive schools towards a joyfully rigorous learning culture. Plan thoughtful strategic plans in alignment with the academic vision at KIPP Tulsa. Lead change management for all stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of any new strategy or change (including, but not limited to, curricular and assessment changes, coaching strategy, etc.) In collaboration with the KIPP Foundation and key stakeholders, ensure all One KIPP priorities are implemented with fidelity across all schools. Oversee the planning and implementation of the KIPP Tulsa elementary school by creating a project plan in collaboration with key stakeholders and in alignment with the vision of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools. Curriculum, Assessment & Instruction Oversee curriculum implementation and assessments across all content areas for all KIPP Tulsa schools, including PK, K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 grade bands, in collaboration with the teaching and learning team members and regional and school-based academic leaders. Manage and forge external relationships with curriculum and teacher development partners in alignment with the vision of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools. Develop, lead, and oversee innovative learning initiatives, including learning management systems, online assessment, student achievement benchmarks, and curriculum and instruction support for all teachers to provide all KIPP Tulsa students with a high-quality, impactful in-person and remote learning experience. Data Fluency Develop and design data systems and structures in collaboration with key stakeholders that help drive strategic decisions to improve student outcomes. Analyze regional data in collaboration with regional and school-based leaders to create action plans promoting student achievement. Collaborate with the Data Manager to create and manage a system for sharing assessment data results and analyses with the greater KIPP Tulsa teacher and leader community. School Support Establish a robust, cohesive coaching cycle that prioritizes school instructional practices in an effort to identify and address curriculum design and professional development gaps. Collaborate with school-based leaders and teachers to devise data-driven action steps that result in improved student outcomes. Align team resources and coaching to strategically support all schools within KIPP Tulsa toward alignment and excellence. Professional Development Coordinate and assist with planning and delivering district and building professional development activities to staff in collaboration with the teaching and learning team. Collaborate and plan, in collaboration with the teaching and learning team, learning for district and building administrators and needed executive members. Coordinate and plan, with the curriculum team and Instructional Coaches, professional development for essential learnings, curriculum, instruction and assessment, instructional practices, and ongoing curriculum resource implementation support. Design and lead summer professional development institutes for leaders, New to KIPP hires, and returning staff members in collaboration with regional content and student support teams Design and implement region-wide professional development and professional growth strategy for teachers and leaders KIPP Forward Provide guidance and support while empowering the Director of KIPP Forward to execute the vision and direction of the program that will allow KIPPsters to achieve their goals and life outcomes through attending college or other high-quality pathways to a successful career. DESIRED EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education or related education field preferred Minimum 10 years of exemplary teaching experience with strong student achievement results Minimum 7 years of exemplary coaching and leading effective professional development for adults Minimum 7 years of effective team management and leadership experience Regional/district-level experience is highly preferred Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high-quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Strong curriculum writing skills, data fluency skills, and understanding of standards across content areas, including being able to learn content quickly to coach other experts Ability to exercise discretion and judgment with the handling of highly sensitive and confidential information A demonstrated passion for and commitment to the core values of our mission, public education, and social justice with a desire to create a work environment that embraces and appreciates diversity. Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $90,000-$105,000. Employees are eligible to participate in employer benefits, including health, dental, life, accidental death and dismemberment, short and long-term disability, and participation in Oklahoma Teacher Retirement plans.
